NHTSA Service Bulletin 10172171: 2017-2019 Altec Aerial Device
Official manufacturer communication context for 2017-2019 Altec Aerial Device, with affected products, buyer checks and links into Carchieve recall, problem and VIN research.
Reviewed June 2026 from NHTSA manufacturer communication and service bulletin records. Carchieve is independent and not affiliated with any vehicle manufacturer or government agency.
The affected units were manufactured with a clamp-style boom rest socket that is attached to the subbase of the unit. Altec has discovered that cracks may develop in the bottom plate of the boom rest socket. Altec has designed reinforcement plates to be installed on the boom rest socket structure. These are used to repair units which have developed cracks and to prevent cracks from occurring on units which have not developed cracks. Clamp Boom Rest Reinforcement Kits are available containing these parts for specific unit models. The kit part numbers are shown below. Altec requires that the appropriate kit be installed on each unit no later than the next regular maintenance interval but no later than 90 days from the receipt of this SIL
What this bulletin may mean before buying
Treat this as service research, not a verdict on one car. Before you buy, compare this communication with official recall campaigns, model-level owner complaint patterns, and the exact vehicle’s VIN-decoded specifications. A bulletin can help you ask a seller or dealer sharper questions about software updates, known repairs, warranty extensions and service history.
