Quick answer

Customer Advisory Letter for Cab-to-Chassis Redundant Ground Strap Installation - FTL Service Bulletin 54-318. Our records indicate that you are the owner of certain vehicles, and DTNA has decided to share the following documentation with you. On New Cascadia vehicles Penske/Black Horse units built prior to May 23, 2019, cab wiring can be damaged with an incorrect ground location or loose ground connections. This can result in inoperable LIN bus-related steering wheel switches, cruise control dropout, poor AM/FM radio reception, and an inoperable steering wheel clockspring. Installing a redundant ground strap from the main ground junction block (MGJB) to the frame will protect the vehicle from unexpected loss of cab grounding, and restore proper operation of the steering wheel switches, the radio, and the steering wheel clockspring.

What this bulletin may mean before buying

Treat this as service research, not a verdict on one car. Before you buy, compare this communication with official recall campaigns, model-level owner complaint patterns, and the exact vehicle’s VIN-decoded specifications. A bulletin can help you ask a seller or dealer sharper questions about software updates, known repairs, warranty extensions and service history.
