Quick answer

Service Information Letter 746 notified customers that on certain units the front bumper grounding cable lug attachment hole was drilled in a location of the frame rail not allowed by the chassis manufacturer. The mis-located hole can cause fatigue cracks to develop in the frame rail. Altec has designed an insert plate to be installed on the inside of the chassis frame rail. This will provide reinforcement to prevent cracking of the frame rail. Frame Rail Insert Kits are available containing the parts for specific chassis drive trains. The kit part numbers are shown in the letter. Altec requires that the correct kit be installed on each unit no later than the next regular maintenance interval.
