Quick answer

A check valve is installed in the control valve for the front bumper winch on certain DC series derricks built from January 2016 through February 2021. Altec has discovered that the check valve has the potential for failure. When the check valve fails, the internal spring can dislodge from the housing and enter the hydraulic system. The hydraulic flow can carry it into the digger/winch control valve and cause one of the spools to bind in the closed position, disabling the function. Altec requires the 035240052 check valve to be replaced no later than the next preventive maintenance interval or 90 days from the receipt of this SIL, whichever comes first.

What this bulletin may mean before buying

Treat this as service research, not a verdict on one car. Before you buy, compare this communication with official recall campaigns, model-level owner complaint patterns, and the exact vehicle’s VIN-decoded specifications. A bulletin can help you ask a seller or dealer sharper questions about software updates, known repairs, warranty extensions and service history.
