NHTSA Service Bulletin 10217160: 2022 Mercedes-benz S 500
Official manufacturer communication context for 2022 Mercedes-benz S 500, with affected products, buyer checks and links into Carchieve recall, problem and VIN research.
Reviewed June 2026 from NHTSA manufacturer communication and service bulletin records. Carchieve is independent and not affiliated with any vehicle manufacturer or government agency.
Complaint On affected hybrid vehicles of model series 223, a sporadic or continuously displayed red 12V warning message is shown in the instrument cluster. Cause Based on the current status of the analyses, 2 different causes may be considered probable: Failure of the current limiter module: The fault does not necessarily trigger a fault code. This fault profile is likely in the event of continuous 12V red messages. A second cause of the fault is indicated by the saved fault codes P0E32FA in the HV DC/DC converter (N82/2; see XENTRY Diagnosis for fault code) and, in some cases, B161609 in the electronic ignition switch (N73). This fault profile is likely in the event of sporadic 12V red messages. Remedy For cause analysis, the quick test for the vehicle should be examined for the presence of either of the two fault codes specified above. If no DTCs are saved and a continuous 12V red message is shown in the instrument cluster, the current limiter module is likely faulty and the component part must be replaced. In the event that the fault codes are saved in the DC/DC converter, the guided check must be followed. Depending on the result of the diagnosis, the work must be invoiced to the SSL of the corresponding component part.
What this bulletin may mean before buying
Treat this as service research, not a verdict on one car. Before you buy, compare this communication with official recall campaigns, model-level owner complaint patterns, and the exact vehicle’s VIN-decoded specifications. A bulletin can help you ask a seller or dealer sharper questions about software updates, known repairs, warranty extensions and service history.
