NHTSA Service Bulletin 10227499: 2022 Rivian R1t
Official manufacturer communication context for 2022 Rivian R1t, with affected products, buyer checks and links into Carchieve recall, problem and VIN research.
Reviewed June 2026 from NHTSA manufacturer communication and service bulletin records. Carchieve is independent and not affiliated with any vehicle manufacturer or government agency.
Rivian is initiating a customer satisfaction campaign for some model year 2022 R1T vehicles which may have been built with a body control module (BCM) that was incorrectly assembled by the supplier. An incorrectly assembled BCM may cease functioning, which would cause an affected vehicle to enter a reduced performance safe state mode and a "Limited Performance Mode" indicator light will illuminate on the driver display. Although this condition has only been observed in one customer vehicle, it is possible that an affected vehicle could lose all exterior lighting and all electronic door locking functionality simultaneously with entering the reduced performance safe state mode. If a locked condition occurs, the vehicle can be exited by pulling the interior door handle twice. Rivian will replace the body control module in the affected vehicles. Rivian is launching this campaign for customer satisfaction and to ensure the quality of Rivian vehicles.
What this bulletin may mean before buying
Treat this as service research, not a verdict on one car. Before you buy, compare this communication with official recall campaigns, model-level owner complaint patterns, and the exact vehicle’s VIN-decoded specifications. A bulletin can help you ask a seller or dealer sharper questions about software updates, known repairs, warranty extensions and service history.
