PURPOSE: This bulletin informs dealers that the 2023 CVO Street Glide (FLHXSE) and Road Glide (FLTRXSE) windshields could exhibit a visible knit line by the four mounting holes. The new CVO windshields are injection molded which enables a more intricate geometry required for the new design. Knit lines are inherent to the injection molding process when holes, slots, etc. are molded into the part. During the molding process, molten material flows around the core pin and knits together causing a fine line to appear. Knit lines are unavoidable and not considered a defect or warrantable concern. They are not a crack or a scratch in the material and the windshield will function as intended. Side air deflectors are also injection molded components and can exhibit knit lines around the mounting fasteners. Other Harley-Davidson windshields used a different manufacturing process that did not produce knit lines but also limited the shape of the windshields.
