NHTSA Service Bulletin 11022199: 2022-2025 Fontaine Magnitude
Official manufacturer communication context for 2022-2025 Fontaine Magnitude, with affected products, buyer checks and links into Carchieve recall, problem and VIN research.
Reviewed June 2026 from NHTSA manufacturer communication and service bulletin records. Carchieve is independent and not affiliated with any vehicle manufacturer or government agency.
Fontaine Specialized (Fontaine) has recently become aware of multiple instances of customer use of Magnitude 55MX and 60HD-MX model trailers in unapproved applications for which the trailers were not designed. In all reported instances, the units at issue appear to have been carrying non-2- point, non-self-supporting loads with the deck stretched. Such load applications and configurations do not comport with Fontaines loading decals and instructions. The applications appear to be related to the transport of modular structures for use at AI data centers. This misuse of the trailers has resulted in some customers experiencing weld failures in the outer beam of the overlap area of the inner and outer beams of the trailers. Some observed and reported configurations were using deck inserts in the fully stretched position, while other configurations were fully stretched to maximum length with no deck inserts. In addition, loads did not appear to have the trailer deck strapped to the load as recommended and designed. As such, the load applications were neither 2-point loaded nor self-supporting, rigid loads and exceeded the given trailer's rating capacity. While the Magnitude 55MX was enhanced to bring even more value to our customers with the Gen 2 design, the load capacity did not change from the Gen 1 design. The load capacity of the 55MX Gen 1 and Gen 2 design remained as follows: 1. 55 tons in 16' in the fully closed position 2. 55 tons in Deck length less 2' in the open position, provided the load is 2-point loaded and a self-supporting, rigid load. The load itself is required to support the deck by means of chains, straps, etc. to keep the deck from dropping below a level condition. The 60HD-MX did not have the Gen 2 design enhancements and the load capacity remained as follows: 1. 60 tons in 16' in the fully closed position in a (3+2) configuration 2. 65 tons in 12' in the fully closed position in a (4CC) configuration 3. 60 tons in Deck length less 2' in the open position, provided the load is 2-point loaded and a self-supporting, rigid load. The load itself is required to support the deck by means of chains, straps, etc. to keep the deck from dropping below a level condition. We are asking all Fontaine dealers to remind their customers of the importance and need to adhere to the proper load applications and configurations. To further support our dealers and end-users, Fontaine Specialized has also released a design engineering change to current builds and is now releasing this product improvement program to our dealers. This program is designed to support you and our customers, resulting in enhanced durability in the overlap area of the inner and outer beams. This program does not change the load capacity of the Magnitude 55MX and 60HD-MX models or the load configuration requirements. It is simply being offered to strengthen this critical area and minimize downtime for our customers. As with any make and model of trailer, it is the responsibility of the end-user to ensure that its trailers are being used in the proper applications, with the proper loads, and using the proper loading configurations. Program details follow: 1. Affected Units: a. All Magnitude 55MX Gen 2 serial numbers. b. All Magnitude 60HD-MX serial numbers. 2. Enhancements: a) Adding bottom doubler plates to outer beam overlap area. b) Triple pass welding the outer beam overlap area. 3. Support Available a) Fontaine Specialized will supply the dealer with doubler plates. Work instructions for this program will be provided upon request by engineering. As always, we remain committed to providing our dealers and customers exceptional value and support. Please see supported serial numbers covered under this program on the following page.
What this bulletin may mean before buying
Treat this as service research, not a verdict on one car. Before you buy, compare this communication with official recall campaigns, model-level owner complaint patterns, and the exact vehicle’s VIN-decoded specifications. A bulletin can help you ask a seller or dealer sharper questions about software updates, known repairs, warranty extensions and service history.

Buyer checklist
- Run the 17-character VIN and confirm the year, make, model, engine and equipment match the listing.
- Check recall campaign pages for safety actions that may require dealer repair.
- Compare this bulletin with common problem pages for the same model and component area.
- Ask the seller or dealer whether the bulletin procedure, update or inspection has already been completed.
- Use the used-car buying checklist and get an independent inspection.
Frequently asked questions
What is NHTSA service bulletin 11022199?

Is a service bulletin the same as a recall?
No. A recall is a safety campaign with a required remedy for affected VINs. A service bulletin or manufacturer communication usually describes diagnostic, repair, software, warranty or service information.
How should a used-car buyer use this bulletin?
Use it as a research signal. Compare it with recalls, owner complaints, service records, a VIN report and an independent inspection before buying.
Check the exact VIN before you buy
Model-level pages show public safety patterns. A full VIN report helps confirm the exact vehicle, decoded specs, recall applicability and buyer checks.
