Quick answer

2025-2026 Expedition XL vehicles that are equipped as a Special Service Vehicle (SSV) (minor feature code TDAGZ) will not open or close the power liftgate/tailgate by pressing the button on the key fob. Additionally, these vehicles may exhibit a symptom where the horn does not sound when the key fob lock button is pressed. Expedition XL vehicles equipped as a SSV have the rear liftgate/tailgate power open/close feature omitted from being operated via the key fob. Pressing the key fob liftgate/tailgate button only locks/unlocks the rear cargo area. The power lift feature will power open/close if the button is pressed on the gate within 45 seconds of pressing the key fob. This functionality cannot be modified and no repairs should be attempted. The Workshop Manual (WSM) has been updated. Refer to WSM, Section 501-03 > Description and Operation > Body Closures System Operation and Component Description and scroll to the section titled Power Liftgate - SSV (Special Service Vehicle) Operation. The Digital Owner's Manual is in process of being updated.

What this bulletin may mean before buying

Treat this as service research, not a verdict on one car. Before you buy, compare this communication with official recall campaigns, model-level owner complaint patterns, and the exact vehicle’s VIN-decoded specifications. A bulletin can help you ask a seller or dealer sharper questions about software updates, known repairs, warranty extensions and service history.
