Quick answer

In our continuing efforts to ensure the proper performance of Mercedes-Benz products and to enhance the satisfaction of our customers, Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC is extending the warranty coverage on the High Voltage (HV) AC Compressor in certain Model Year (MY) vehicles listed below from the original New Vehicle Limited Warranty of 4 years/50,000 miles to 8 years/unlimited miles, whichever occurs first, relating to the following condition: A malfunctioning HV AC compressor can cause electrical insulation to fail. This failure may lead to Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) being recorded and can trigger the illumination of the Check Engine Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL). A warning message may also be displayed (e.g., check High-Voltage system, battery symbol with text malfunction, visit workshop without restarting) in the instrument cluster. Electric driving is possible. However, if the driver ignores the visit workshop without restarting message and switches off the vehicle, it would no longer be able to start.

What this bulletin may mean before buying

Treat this as service research, not a verdict on one car. Before you buy, compare this communication with official recall campaigns, model-level owner complaint patterns, and the exact vehicle’s VIN-decoded specifications. A bulletin can help you ask a seller or dealer sharper questions about software updates, known repairs, warranty extensions and service history.
